T.N. CM Stalin (Thalapathy Stalin) is the current Chief Minister of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. He is the son of the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. Karunanidhi, and the leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) political party. Stalin was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 7, 2021, following the victory of the DMK-led alliance in the state assembly elections held in April 2021. Prior to becoming the Chief Minister, Stalin served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 2009 to 2011, and as the Minister for Rural Development and Local Administration from 2006 to 2011. He is known for his efforts to promote social welfare programs and inclusive development policies in the state.
T.N. CM Stalin, also known as M.K. Stalin, was born on March 1, 1953, in Chennai (formerly known as Madras), Tamil Nadu, India. He is the second son of M. Karunanidhi, a prominent leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) political party and a former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Stalin’s political career began in the early 1970s, when he started participating in DMK party activities. He was first elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in 1989 from the Thousand Lights constituency in Chennai. Since then, he has been elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) six times and as a Member of Parliament (MP) twice.
In 2006, Stalin was appointed as the Minister for Rural Development and Local Administration in the government of Tamil Nadu. During his tenure, he introduced several initiatives aimed at improving rural infrastructure, such as the construction of rural roads and the provision of clean drinking water. He also implemented programs to enhance the delivery of basic services to rural areas, such as healthcare and education.
In 2009, Stalin was promoted to the position of Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He served in this role until 2011, when the DMK party lost the state elections.
Stalin became the President of the DMK party in 2018, following the death of his father, M. Karunanidhi. In 2021, he led the DMK-led alliance to victory in the Tamil Nadu state assembly elections and was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 7, 2021.
As the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Stalin has focused on promoting social welfare programs, such as the distribution of free laptops to students and the implementation of a universal healthcare scheme. He has also launched initiatives to improve infrastructure in the state, such as the construction of new highways and the expansion of the Chennai Metro rail network.
