Food Safety Department officials conduct surprise raids on hotels

Following the death of a student who ate shawarma in Namakkal, surprise inspections are being conducted by food safety officials in all shawarma restaurants. On the orders of Vellore District Collector Kumaravelpandian, the raid is also being conducted in Vellore district.

Accordingly, a team consisting of District Food Safety Officer Senthilkumar and Food Safety Officers Rajesh and Sivamani conducted surprise raids on hotels in Poigai and Kudiattam areas yesterday.

Then 12 kg of spoiled chicken used in the hotels was confiscated and destroyed. Also, 6 kg of food which was cooked and processed at the bridge was also seized.

In this regard, notices have been given to 2 hotels asking for an explanation. A fine of Rs.2 thousand and Rs.4 thousand was imposed on 2 hotels. Officials of the Food Safety Department said that such inspections will be conducted regularly and strict action will be taken against the shop selling spoiled food.
