Ratan Tata is an Indian industrialist, philanthropist, & former Chairman, the holding company of the Tata Group, one of India largest conglomerates. He was born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, India, into a prominent Parsi family with a long history of involvement in business and philanthropy.

Ratan Tata joined the Tata Group in 1962 and served in various roles across the organization before being appointed Chairman of Tata Sons in 1991. Under his leadership, the Tata Group expanded significantly, both in India and internationally, with the acquisition of several global brands, including Jaguar Land Rover and Tetley Tea.

Tata is known for his commitment to corporate social responsibility and philanthropy. He has been instrumental in establishing several social welfare initiatives through the Tata Trusts, a group of charitable organizations that work to improve the lives of underprivileged communities in India. Some of the notable projects initiated by Tata include the Tata Nano car, which was designed to be affordable and accessible to the masses, and the Tata Swach, a low-cost water purifier designed for use in rural areas.

Tata has been recognized for his contributions to business and philanthropy with numerous awards and honors, including the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, two of India’s highest civilian honors. In 2008, he was named among the 50 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.

In December 2012, Tata retired as Chairman of Tata Sons, but he continues to be actively involved in the Tata Group and serves on the boards of several other organizations. He is also a member of various international business and philanthropic organizations, including the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the advisory board of the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.
