CMC Vellore Ranipet Campus

CMC Hospital, or Christian Medical College and Hospital, is a renowned medical institution located in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India. It was founded in 1900 by an American missionary, Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder, who had a vision to provide quality healthcare to the underserved population in India.

Dr. Scudder was inspired to start the hospital after witnessing the suffering of women who had no access to proper healthcare during her stay in India. She returned to the United States to study medicine and then returned to India to set up the hospital. In the beginning, the hospital was a small dispensary with a few beds, but it soon grew in size and scope.

The hospital continued to expand its facilities and services over the years. In 1942, the College of Nursing was established, which was followed by the College of Medicine in 1947. In 1953, the hospital became a teaching hospital affiliated with the Madras University, and in 1988, it became an autonomous institution.

Today, CMC Hospital is recognized as one of the top medical institutions in India, offering world-class medical facilities and services in a range of specialties, including cardiology, neurology, oncology, pediatrics, and more. It continues to operate on the founding principles of Dr. Scudder, providing quality healthcare to all, regardless of their ability to pay.
