Dheeran Chinnamalai, also known as Tiruppur Kumaran, was a prominent freedom fighter and leader during the Indian struggle for independence against British colonial rule. He played a crucial role in the late 18th century, during a period when various regional leaders and rebels were fighting for the liberation of their respective territories.

Early Life: Dheeran Chinnamalai was born in Melapalayam, a village in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, India, in 1756. He came from a warrior community and grew up with a strong sense of patriotism and a desire for the liberation of his homeland from British rule.
Resistance Against British Rule: Chinnamalai became a prominent leader in the region of Kongu Nadu, which is now part of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. He was known for his charisma, leadership skills, and his commitment to fighting against the British East India Company’s oppressive policies and taxation.
Polygar Wars: During the late 18th century, Chinnamalai led a series of uprisings against the British and their allies, the Polygars (local chieftains). These conflicts, known as the Polygar Wars, were primarily aimed at resisting British control and taxation. Chinnamalai’s ability to unite various local leaders in the region made him a formidable opponent for the British.
Battle of Odanilai: One of the most significant battles in Chinnamalai’s resistance efforts was the Battle of Odanilai, which took place in 1801. In this battle, Chinnamalai and his forces fought valiantly against the British, but ultimately, they were defeated.
Death: After the Battle of Odanilai, Chinnamalai went into hiding to continue his struggle against the British. However, he was eventually betrayed by a fellow rebel and captured by the British. On July 31, 1805, Dheeran Chinnamalai was hanged by the British in Sankagiri, Tamil Nadu.
