UK’s Secretary of State for Health, Steve Barclay, confirmed that England is determined to eradicate smoking by 2030.
Due to the increasing prevalence of smoking in England, the number of individuals affected by life-threatening diseases is consistently rising. As a result, around 50,000 people are being afflicted each year by diseases such as cancer and respiratory ailments.
Consequently, not only individual citizens but also the government are incurring higher healthcare expenses. Therefore, the government is implementing various measures to reduce this, as a part of which healthcare expenses for the government itself are being escalated.
As a part of it, the government emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about the health risks associated with smoking, both in terms of the diseases it causes and the benefits that arise upon quitting. Through this initiative, the UK government, led by the Secretary of State for Health, Steve Barclay, is determined to completely eradicate smoking by 2030.
