To release water in the Krishna River

The Tamil Nadu government has written a letter to the Andhra Water Resources Department requesting to release water from the Krishna River. As of yesterday, only 16.6 tmcft of water remains in the reservoir, which had 1.03 tmcft until now, as Andhra released water from the Krishna River due to the reduced intensity of the monsoon rainfall in Telangana. The reduction in water supply from the reservoir to the Chembarambakkam reservoir has been initiated to conserve water in the Chembarambakkam reservoir, as the water flow from the reservoir to Chennai has been reduced. In the current situation, the Tamil Nadu government has written a letter to the Andhra Water Resources Department requesting the release of water from the Krishna River. In the letter written about this matter, it is stated, “The water provided this year is significantly reduced compared to the water that should be supplied annually.” During the current season of providing water, until yesterday, only 1.03 tmcft (thousand million cubic feet) of water has been released by the Andhra Pradesh government. As of yesterday, only 39.5 cusecs (cubic feet per second) of water has been received for Uthukottai and Zero Point border areas. Therefore, in order to meet Chennai’s drinking water needs, it is stated that the Andhra Pradesh government should release 12 tmcft of water from the Krishna River every year.
